Jack C. Hurliman was a Canon City physician for over 45 years. He owned the Colorado Hospital and oversaw its operation for more than 15 years. He was a City Councilman of Canon City and a 25-year member of the planning commission.
Edith E. Hurliman lived in Canon City for almost 70 years and was a member of many local organizations. She was generous with both her time and money, aiding many local groups and charities.
Both Jack and Edith Hurliman wanted to give back to the community that gave them so much. Mrs. Hurliman saw the establishment of the Hurliman Scholarship Foundation as the best way to accomplish this goal. She appointed her cousin, Terry Barnett, and Dr. Hurliman’s niece, Lila Anastas, to serve on the Board of the Foundation and to help guide its operation. Both of the Hurlimans are now deceased.
